Getting Started

Project Money is a free service designed with input from adult learners to help other learners. We hope that clear and simple language helps reduce the intimidation that keeps many people from achieving their financial goals. This site does not provide specific financial advice; instead, the goal is to give you and your learner access to information so that they can make their own decisions.

This site has beginning material on the topics requested most by adult literacy students:

• Other Resources – links to additional topics such as getting a loan, buying a home and starting a business

Getting Started with Your Learners

Talking about personal finances can be a sensitive issue for your learner and a tricky one for you, the tutor. If so, read Feeling Comfortable Talking About Money as a first step.

Tools for Getting Started:

• Meet the adult learners who helped develop Project Money to learn about their experiences managing their money.
• Take a look at 10 steps to financial well-being for a quick overview.
• Understand your learner’s specific money skills and learning goals by using the Getting Started Assessment tool.  
• Set up a Project Money learning plan with your learner to help them reach financial literacy goals.
