Your Credit History

How to Build Credit

There are real benefits to paying cash for everything. But if you always pay cash, you might not have a credit history. A credit history will help you when you want to buy a car, a house or even get a job.

Here are some ideas to start a credit history.

  • Get a credit card. Buy something with it, and then pay it off quickly.

  • If you cannot get a standard credit card, ask your bank for a “secured” credit card.

  • If you are married, make sure that some credit accounts are in your name; not just in your spouse’s name.

  • Get a small loan from your bank. Pay it back on time.
